Oh, summer… how I love you. With sunshine-filled days and warm evenings out under the stars, I always enjoy making subtle changes to decor to let all that summer light in. Today, I am talking bedroom styling for summer with my 5 favorite ways to refresh your bedroom for summer.

1. Crisp and clean neutrals
Start with a neutral base for a fresh and simple feeling. I love crisp white linens and cottons on the bed — but they don’t have to be boring. For instance, look for a duvet cover with details like pin tucking, ruching, embroidery, etc. Keep it tone-on-tone for a clean backdrop for your other colors.  I found this beautiful one at HomeGoods and felt it was the perfect staple for the space.

2. Color
I have a very vintage, French style, and so for me, summer color is more muted than bold. I bring in pastels and softer shades of colors to mix with crisp whites and natural linens.

3. Patterns
I walked into HomeGoods the other day and did a happy dance on the way out with a cart piled high full of pillows in various sizes, colors and patterns. Florals, ticking stripes and checks are perfect for sprucing up for summer, and they come in a variety of colors.

One of my favorite ways to bring color in without changing everything is to use pillows. A few new pillows on the bed or bench in the bedroom brings freshness without feeling too overwhelming.

4. Textures
I am a huge texture girl. From grasscloth to baskets to needlepoints, think of textures as layers. The knit throw over the quilt (both from HomeGoods) is a perfect example — add in the needlepoint pillow and you have layers of interest.

5. Fresh flowers
Of course, every room and every refresh deserves that finishing touch of fresh flowers. I picked up this charming little pitcher at HomeGoods and used it as a vase on the nightstand. Fresh flowers make every room feel more finished, and make you happy when you see them.
